Orascom Buys 19.3% Share of Hutchison

Hutchison Telecommunications, Hong Kong-based Hutchison Whampoa 's subsidiary, has sold a 19.3% share to Egyptian Orascom Telecom for US$1.3 billion. The two companies will procure equipment jointly and seek other ways to collaborate. Through this cooperation, Orascom Telecom, which operates mainly in Middle East and Africa, can extend its business to India, Vietnam, and Indonesia, where Hutchison Telecom has been providing services. In the next 12 months, Orascom Telecom can buy another 3.7% share of Hutchison Telecom at no less than US$1.42.
